Blue Man Group

Blue Man Group takes an interesting approach to finding the irony and commonality between things that we overlook in our daily lives, by using everyday common objects found in the average household, to create a single sound.  Those single sounds are used in a combination of ways to orchestrate a symphony, of melodic percussion.  Blue Man Group personifies the role, of how all things small, can become part of something bigger.

I found Blue Man Group’s use of PVC piping, to put together a percussion band, quite interesting.  It plays on the human nature of creativity and socialization; a tribal skill deeply embedded in all of us.  The comic relief and crowd participation was all a part of the fantasy that lingers in the back of everyone’s mind.  They bring light to all of the things that we normally think of, but never say.  I found it to be quite funny as their quirky antics were challenged with a carefree attitude and over the top happiness.

Deeply playing on each persons sense of what makes them unique.  Having opened my eyes, and breaking away from the accepted cultural norms, Blue Man Group intrigued the senses to abstract and avant-garde views.

For a moment or two, I thought it was all a jumble of mixed comedy sets with some great music in between.  As the end approached and the final act came out, it all came together for me.  It was a message.  A message saying, “Live your life free, and the way you want it to be.  No matter what you see, it is only you, that can change the way you, see it.”  It was then, that I left my seat, and walked out with a smile on my face and no words to describe what I had discovered.  It was the age-old saying, “life is what you make of it.”  With all of the shows comedic relief and hidden messages, and with all its jocularity, it was well worth the trip.
