Tips To Get Those Smokey Eyes

What is it about smokey eyes that makes you automatically feel 5 times sexier?  Why is it that more than 5 times the people have difficulty getting it right?  So what do we do?  Give up and go for a basic mascara look?  Heck no Ladies!

Walk into wherever you’re going feeling like the sultry seductress that you are.  Many of us love this look but many of us do not like to fuss over something we are not sure we can pull off!  You can pull off this never outdated look in just a few easy steps without the whole “oops, I was going for hot mama, not woodland racoon!”

So bust out your blackest black and let’s get colouring!

First off, you will need a nice light highlighting eye shadow colour.  Depending on your skin tone, you may want to use a light shimmery white for lighter skin tones, ranging to a golden tone for deeper skin tones.  Use this highlighter colour all over your eyes as a base, from lashes to brow bone.

Next, take a black eyeliner (or any colour of your choice, smokey eyes do not always necessarily mean black) and line your eyes.  Don’t worry about getting a straight line, and you can go a little thick here if you’d like.  That’s one of the great things about this look, it doesn’t have to be so precise!

Grab a smudge brush and smudge that line into your lashes and upwards towards your crease.  Take your black eye shadow (or colour of your choice) and press it on top of your eyeliner.  Now take a fluff brush or blending brush and blend your shadow upwards into your crease.  BLEND, BLEND, BLEND!  Blending on a smokey eye is your best friend.  Now go ahead and put some of that eyeliner below your eyes and smudge it into your lower lash line then put some more eyeliner onto your inner eye rim.

Coat those bad boys with some major mascara top and bottom and add a bit more of that highlighting eye shadow on your brow bone and you are ready to hit the town and bring your “wink” to a whole new level.

TIPS:

  1. Put some translucent powder underneath your eyes while creating this look. Sometimes the shadow falls onto your cheeks and that can get messy, especially if you have spent time creating flawless skin.
  2. Remember!  It’s always easier to add than subtract.  Do a little eye shadow at a time. The darker you want your eyes to look, the more you add.
  3. Try out some false lashes if you’re feeling gutsy, they always add a little more of that... je ne sais quoi...
  4. If you still doubt yourself, hire a professional makeup artist for a lesson and ask them to do one eye step by step while you recreate the look on your other eye!
